Isabella Vento, owner of Heritage Bakery and Cafe, makes running a business seem like a piece of cake. With the help of her mother, and a few other family members, Vento has created a cozy, homey space for customers to enjoy.

Isabella Vento’s family has always been close, so running a business with her mother, Brenda Looewen, was an easy decision.

“Being as close as we are with our family, I called my mom up because I’m like, ‘I don’t know anything about opening this business,’” Vento said.

Looewen already had business experience. She helped open her husband’s restaurant years ago. As co-owners, Looewen handles most of the financial responsibilities while Vento runs the kitchen.

Vento explained that as a child working in her father’s restaurant, she was more comfortable in the kitchen rather than facing the customers. Vento loved helping her father in the kitchen when she was younger, and those experiences fueled her passion for baking.

“Growing up I would always work with [my father] in the kitchen…baking, working with food and all the ingredients and colors and plating. That’s where my passion lies.” Vento said.

The kitchen is Vento’s second home. From working with her family to honing her craft, Vento has created a space that not only she enjoys, but the community enjoys.

“It’s just my happy place,” Vento said.
