Bustling with bartenders, baristas and loyal customers, Broad Porch Coffee is perched on court square in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Walking up to the coffee shop, customers can view a huge mural on the side of the building done by two local artists who have created multiple murals in the area working for Earth Surprise.
“They were friends with one of our owners and we decided to see if they could design something beautiful,” Eger said.
But the mural is just the beginning of the coffee shop experience.
“Always a great experience, always, always, always” said Amy Knorr, a customer at Broad Porch. “I love the ambiance. It’s so open. I love the skylight. I love the greenery.”
She added, “I love that you can sit in comfy chairs and the pouch, or you can sit at a table if you want to work. It’s totally a multi-purpose space.”
Customer Blake Boyers said, “It’s a really nice, relaxing atmosphere. A lot of times, whenever I don’t have time to go get breakfast. I can just come by here to get a nice, healthy breakfast that’s pretty filling.”
Broad Porch’s success grew the business into other parts of the Valley.
Broad Porch started in a small collection of local stores — “Agora.” Since then, in 2017, Broad Porch expanded to three different branches in Luray and Harrisonburg.
“It’s substantially grown in the last seven years,” Rae Eger, manager at the Court Square branch, said.
Broad Porch serves a crucial role in the community.
Through many university and community events and concerts, Broad Porch has become one of the most involved coffee shops in Harrisonburg. Indeed, it serves a bigger purpose than just to grab coffee and some food.
“I would say a role that Broad Porch can play with the Harrisonburg community or even the JMU community” Eger Said “Is really just providing a welcoming space to just have amazing coffee and also some really great food.,”
