On Friday, March 21, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association honored Crown winners at their annual spring convention awards ceremony and advisers at the Adviser Luncheon.

Among those honored were Gold Crown winners:

  • Nuntius, Altavista Combined School, Altavista, VA
  • The Buzzer, Brookville High School, Lynchburg, VA
  • Theogony, Hidden Valley High School, Roanoke, VA

The following schools received Silver Crowns:

  • The Lasso Online, George Mason High School, Falls Church, VA
  • The A-Blast | thea-blast.org, Annandale High School, Annandale, VA;
  • The Rough Draft, Flint Hill School, Oakton, VA
  • The Falconer, Fauquier High School, Warrenton, VA
  • Sentry, Robinson Middle School, Fairfax, VA
  • Accolade, Cave Spring High School, Roanoke, VA
  • Laconian, Salem High School, Salem, VA
  • Saga, Loudoun Valley High School, Purcellville, VA

Chris Waugaman, director of the Virginia Association of Journalism Teachers and Advisers and adviser of Prince George High School’s The Royal News, TRNWired and PGTV News, received a CSPA Gold Key.  This award is given, “in recognition of outstanding devotion to the cause of the school press, encouragement to the student editors in their several endeavors, service above and beyond the call of delegated duty, leadership in the field of education, and support of the high ideals from which the Association has drawn its strength and inspiration.”
