Pulp, Shenandoah Bicycle Company offer ‘welcoming atmosphere’

Pulp Açaí Smoothie Bar and Shenandoah Bicycle Company, are connected together and owner operated. Both shops is located at 135 S Main St. and share the same type of vibe.

As worker Glen Thomas said, “I think it’s a pretty welcoming atmosphere.”

The bicycle shop was opened in 1999 by Thomas Jenkins and Tim Richardson. Both have been working full-time in the shop since then. The workers welcome you when you walk in, and as Richardson said, they’re “here to help.” Workers in the bike shop are experienced and bike often.

They offer help to bikers of all levels, whether you’re just starting or advanced.

“I think we offer a better diversity to accessibility to any level of cyclist,” Richardson said.

The smoothie bar also adds a little bit more to the bike shop, as it’s part of what attracts people.  Smoothies and bowls are all made fresh when you order, and the shop also offers vegetarian nachos. There are multiple tables and even a sofa that customers can sit on while they have their bowl or smoothie.

“It tastes good and is good for you,” Richardson said.

Richardson said teens will come in and “get a bowl and walk around and hang out and shop for a while.” The two businesses bring in many teens. Richardson said he doesn’t know the exact numbers, but enough come that “they stand out as a group that regularly frequents.”
