Bluetique a local shop with clothes for girls

Bluetique, located at 187 N. Main St., provides clothing for teens and college-aged girls. This shop was not always just in downtown Harrisonburg. Bluetique started as a chain in Kentucky with multiple locations. The other locations are now closed but the newest one, in Harrisonburg, remains. Owner Candice Shelton lives in Harrisonburg and started the shop six years ago in its current location.
Store employee Madeline Brown, a senior at James Madison University, said the shop was started to market to mostly college-aged girls. The busiest season is the school year because of all the college students, she said. Though this shop is directed towards college girls, it’s also a good place for teens to visit.
“It’s not clothing that’s specifically for college students,” she said. “it’s just planted in a college town for that market. I think all ages could shop here. I think it has that nice young, fun, lighthearted feel.”
Brown recommends this shop also because of the feedback from customers.
“People like it because it’s that small homey feel,” Brown said. Customers do like the shop for their local small feel. The shop also sells clothing and jewelry online.
Brown said the shop is one of multiple locations that are great for young people.
“I personally love downtown,” she said, “especially if you know what shops to go to. I think it’s a great place. You know, you’re walking around outside … it’s different than just going to the mall or a movie.”
